Southampton Ancient Egypt Society (SAES) was founded in 1998 to meet the desire of local people to learn more about and discuss Egyptology. The aims of our Society are to promote the study and public dissemination of the culture, religion, art, language, life and death in Ancient Egypt. Monthly meetings take place virtually on Zoom. Lectures are given by top class speakers covering history, archaeology, developments in modern Egypt and news items from around the Egyptological world. How to join us on Zoom is given in the 'join us' and 'programme' sections of the website. Additionally, there are occasional face-to-face meetings at Itchen College. Details of the Itchen College venue are given under the 'about us' tab on this website.
The 'News' section of this website is regularly updated.

CHANGES DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC HAVE FORCED US TO LEAVE OASIS ACADEMY. MOST MEETINGS ARE NOW ON ZOOM. OCCASIONAL FACE TO FACE MEETINGS ARE HELD AT ITCHEN COLLEGE. THE POSSIBILITY OF 'HYBRID' MEETINGS WILL BE EXPLORED, WHERE A SPEAKER GIVES THEIR TALK AT ITCHEN COLLEGE BUT IT IS ALSO TRANSMITTED ON ZOOM. SEE THE PANEL (LEFT) AND NEWS SECTION FOR THE NEXT 'VIRTUAL' MEETINGS, FOR YOU TO VIEW ON YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE OR FACE TO FACE MEETINGS FOR YOU TO ATTEND AT ITCHEN COLLEGE.
If you live away from Southampton, even if you are not in the UK, you can view and listen to one of our virtual talks. Please visit the 'News' section and the 'Join Us' sections of this website.
Members and visitors are warmly welcomed to our talks, study days and classes. If you are interested in joining us, you are welcome to come along to any meeting as a guest first. Membership fee is adjusted depending on time of year joining.
Our next events are in the panel on the left.
Please note that the 2023 / 2024 programme is almost finalised, but most and maybe all of the meetings will be through Zoom only. 'Hybrid' meetings (face to face and Zoom simultaneously) are being investigated, but are not yet possible. A programme leaflet will be issued this season, and will appear soon below and in the 'About Us' section of this website. Please remember details may change due to unforeseen circumstances.
